Stakeholder Consultation with State Government, Jharkhand on Business and Human Rights project of UNDP and B+HR Asia, 2021

An engagement with the government in the source location in Ranchi, Jharkhand, was organized on 28 September 2021. The event was attended by the Hon’ble Labour Minister, Shri Satyanand Bhogta. Speakers from different government departments like Jharkhand Legal Authority Services (JHALSA), the Department of Industries, the Department of Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development, the Jharkhand Skill Mission Development Society, Xavier Institute of Social Work (XISS), factory representatives Waist Band and, garment factory workers, including those who were rehabilitated from workplaces of concern.
The main aim of this meeting was to encourage compliance with the regulations applicable to employers and to enable the inclusion of informal employment under relevant regulations to ensure basic social security for women migrant workers in both the formal and informal sector. The findings and recommendations of the baseline assessment, part of the initiative, were also shared with the more than 60 participants, including government officials and other key stakeholders working on the ground on migration issues. The labour commissioner assured that he would engage with JHALSA to provide greater legal support to women migrant workers and communities through paralegal volunteers.
