Project Overview:
Change Alliance, in collaboration with Water for People, conducted an Impact Assessment of key WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiatives:
- Swachho Nirapad Parivesh (SNP), in Birbhum district, West Bengal covering Rajnagar and Khoyrasol blocks.
- Water Initiative Program (Mission Pani), in Amravati district, Maharashtra, particularly in Chikhaldara block and surrounding intervention areas.
Both the initiatives were implemented to address critical challenges related to water security, sanitation, hygiene, and sustainable water management in underserved and water-stressed communities. The initiatives focused on improving access to safe drinking water, strengthening sanitation infrastructure, promoting behavior change, and building community ownership for long-term sustainability.
Objectives of the study:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of Water for People India’s WASH programs.
- Gather insights into success stories, challenges, and best practices.
- Assess key indicators such as health outcomes, infrastructure utilization, community engagement, and sustainability.

Project Impact and Outcomes:
- Improved Access to Water and Services through infrastructure investments, water source strengthening, and improved distribution systems.
- Extensive awareness activities led to increased adoption of safe hygiene practices, improved sanitation behaviour
- The establishment of local committees and village-level planning mechanisms improved community ownership and accountability for water resource management.
- Improved water access and hygiene practices contributed to better health outcomes, reduced vulnerability to water-related diseases
